GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR PERFORMING ARTISTS

You may be interested in being part of the Arts Council Toowoomba, ‘Performance Ephemera’ 2009 project. As you may have heard, this is going to be a fairly unique community project within the Toowoomba Region. The performance will last for approximately 17mins. We aim to present homage to the parks, celebrations and the carnival.

Our first workshop/ briefing night will be held on Wednesday 9th of September between 5 - 8:00pm at Laurel Bank Park Hall. · During that time we will be looking at some of the boring paperwork that we have to complete (between 5-6pm) so if you are running a little late – that is fine, just come ready to fill in some details.

From 6pm we will be looking at the performance concept and your role within it and getting you used to the music and introduce you to a little of the movement (this shouldn’t be too heavy on choreography – just fairly simple stuff.) · You will also be placed in ‘teams’ of 3 people (if you can bring two friends to make your own team – even better!)

Our second workshop will be at this stage on Sunday 13th September, between 10am-1pm (location will be confirmed – we are thinking of secretly taking it to ????????) – shhhhh! · During this we will be moving around the space, working with the music more and developing the choreography further to suit the level of experience within our groups. · This will be the time that we run over the performance several times to ensure you are all comfortable

Working within the Carnival time table our first performance will be just after the parade (Saturday 19th September) – for this performers will be required between 12.30 and 2.30 pm (briefing and some attention attracting activity) And our second performance will be part of the Street Festival on Sunday 27th September, with performers required between 2 - 3:30pm (This time may be shortened – we are waiting confirmation of the times for other events at the festival.)

So to recap – time requirements: ·

Wednesday 9th September between 5pm and 8pm at Laurel Bank Park Hall (Hill Street, Toowoomba) ·

Sunday 13thSeptember between 10am-1pm (location to be confirmed via email)

·

Saturday 19th September between 12.30 – 2.30pm · Sunday 27th September between 2-3:30pm

Costuming: (own to be provided)

We are looking for all performers to wear whites, - any style (just make sure that it is ‘sun-smart’ enough and you can move in it). So have a think – and don’t go to any great expense please. Enclosed shoes for movement (sneakers, volleys, canvas, etc – no thongs, open sandals etc) A flash of colour – when in the groups, discuss a colour that everyone has an ‘accessory’ in that colour, to theme the group, i.e. a person with a Blue Hat, a person with a blue belt, and the other with blue sunnies.

Props: We have had some troubles sourcing enough blue eskies – we are asking if anyone coming could beg, borrow (preferably not steal!!) a blue esky with a white lid (we are looking to use 26L but at this stage, any size will suffice! ) We will provide the radios, balls, water bottles, blankets (sound intriguing?)

Payment:

As mentioned in the emails and media – each performer will be paid $50 for their involvement and this will be issued as a cheque following the final performance. And Arts Council Toowoomba will cover your $15 membership to ensure that you are covered under insurance. (This gives you discounts to the OnTour Shows that visit the Empire and other towns/cities in Queensland, access to our newsletter and connection to the Toowoomba professional arts community).

We look forward to seeing you all at Laurel Bank Park Hall on Wednesday, and please bring along your friends, co-workers, brothers, sisters, teachers, aunties and uncles, cousins,

Best Wishes,

Shannon Cook
